This workshop begins with creating richly textured collage materials through paste painting, distressing and aging, masking and lifting, ink sieve and patterning with innovative tools.  Exercises to develop a personal compositional structure and experiments with a variety of support surfaces will provide a comfortable framework to begin with encaustic. Going beyond simple collage in wax, this workshop is designed to assist students in creating intricate and personally significant paintings, where mixed media choices as material and application become intuitive.

Explore methods that can be used to create complexity, add interest and texture, and design with mystery and drama.  Correct use and mixing of media with wax along with tips and suggestions for display and shipping will be discussed.  The workshop is co-sponsored by R&F Paints.

The versality of encaustic invites the use of mixed media materials and methods, while the natural luminosity and transparency of the paint allows for complex multi-layered work that speaks of time and memory.   This workshop is appropriate for mixed media students with no prior encaustic experience. Experienced students will also find innovative approaches, materials and processes to move their work forward.
