Students will also get a 12”x12” panel and access to tools and materials to use for their final mixed media composition.

Bring nature into your art!

This two-day course is designed for mixed media artists, fiber artists, and makers of all kinds who are wanting to learn some straight forward print-making techniques and bring more natural elements and imagery into their art.

During this class, you’ll learn all kinds of ways to get impressions of natural objects onto all kinds of materials for a variety of effects. After this powerhouse of a workshop, you’ll go home with tons of material to use in your artwork, as well as a nature-themed 12”x12” mixed media art piece!

The first day, you’ll learn nature printing techniques using leaves, vegetables, and other natural objects with nontoxic printing inks on a variety assorted papers, fabrics, and even mylar – you’ll learn ways to get fantastic detail and unique effects -  all without a printing press.  We’ll also work on dark fabrics and papers and add bleach discharge and decolorants into the mix.

On the second day, you’ll have an opportunity to print with light! We’ll be printing on light-sensitive papers and fabrics using natural objects and sunlight. After a day and a half of printmaking, you’ll have a tremendous array of imagery! Some of what you’ve created will be stunning all on its own, and some of it may come to life as part of a larger collage.

The culmination of the class will be using your materials to create a 12”x12” mixed media art piece! You’ll learn ways of combining paper and fabric using adhesives as well as tricks for using wire and brads to add three dimensional found objects.

All materials will be provided – you can just show up and have fun! - but students are encouraged to bring their own plant materials and found natural objects for printmaking and inclusion in their final mixed media art piece. Students will also be asked prior to the class if their focus is paper or fiber.
