‘I use a lot of my own photography in my encaustic paintings, and had the opportunity several years ago to photograph a collection of vintage typewriters. As someone who loves language, text, learning, and the fantastical world of stories, I was drawn to their symbolism. Here, a figure reads a book and is then connected to the roots of the story - a tale researched, written, and shared. That the writer might be underground in some way while also in the light adds some interesting possibilities to the narrative of the image itself.’
