BEND THE RULES: ENCAUSTIC ON PAPER with Bridget Benton, APR 10TH, 11TH, and 12TH 2026
April 10th (Friday), April 11th (Saturday) and April 12th (Sunday) - 10 AM to 5 PM each day - $445 - All materials for class are included, although students are welcome to bring their own collage materials.
Using encaustic on a flexible surface like paper? Tearing your paintings up? Combining water media and wax? Using magnets to mount your images? YES!! Let's bend the "rules" of working with wax and get experimental! This course is based on methods Bridget is currently using in her own work - so come play with me!
In this mixed-media workshop, we'll explore:
Working on heavy paper with encaustic
Working on light-weight paper with encaustic - including encaustic monotype
Incorporating various water-soluble media like India ink, watercolor, gouache, graphite, watercolor pencils, and water-soluble crayons into your encaustic paintings
Working intuitively to create exciting starts to your encaustic paintings
Incorporating collage elements into your work working with an iron
Building layers
Tearing to shape your paintings
Using stitching to reconfigure torn or cut elements
Mounting your art on panels using magnets, stitching, and other techniques
Along with the basics: encaustic safety and composition
While beginners are welcome in this energetic and exploratory workshop, participants with some encaustic experience (even if it was one class ten years ago!) may find it easier to dive in and keep up!
This class seats 8 students. For any questions regarding our cancellation or transfer policy, please refer to the link in our navigation bar.
