Whether the houses you create are a symbol of sanctuary, an homage to family, a home for whimsical, or even a little kooky and creepy, you'll have fun in this beginner-friendly workshop! Every participant will get two blocks of wood in rough-cut house shapes to embellish with mixed-media, collage, encaustic wax, and dimensional objects!
In this class, students will learn:
Which mixed-media favorites play well with encaustic
The basics of working with wax and applying encaustic to a three dimensional form
How to collage into encaustic wax medium
Different ways of attaching dimensional objects to an encaustic-coated form
This class is a fantastic introduction to the three-dimensional and sculptural potential of encaustic wax, and will demonstrate methods that can be carried over into ALL encaustic wax applications!

Bridget Benton is the lead instructor in Encaustic Methods, Nature Print, ecoprint and collage methods at 310 ART. In addition to local teaching, Bridget is a faculty member of the international encaustic online encaustic masterclass, Painting with Fire, as well as the author of the award-winning “The Creative Conversation: ArtMaking as Playful Prayer”. Teaching credentials include the Creative Problem Solving Institute in Buffalo, NY; the Newport Visual Arts Center in Newport, OR; Art Unraveled in Phoenix, AZ; and Collage in Portland, OR. as well as the Nature Printing Society’s Annual Workshop where she served for several years as the event’s Educational Coordinator.

Students are invited to bring their own collage materials and ephemera for decorating their houses.
