CREATING MEANING IN ACRYLIC AND MIXED MEDIA - Beginner Friendly! with Cynthia LIanes, OCT 15th (1pm to 5pm) ET 2026

$145.00

Thursday, Oct 15th- 1PM to 5PM- $145 - All basic materials supplied, but see below for suggestions!

This beginner-friendly class is all about creative exploration, play and discovery!‍ ‍

The focus of this mixed media painting class is building a story through various materials - using them to carry meaning or intention. Each participant will choose a theme or a story they can translate into a visual form.

An example of these prompts might be… A Time to Remember, My Journey, A Dream, or Paradise Garden. Your story can stay abstract -- no need to illustrate it! To begin, ask this question: What is a STORY narrative that has touched me deeply or has been in my mind that I would like to express through my artwork?

In this class, students will learn…

  • Techniques in tearing and cutting paper for organic shapes

  • Layering materials and building surface texture with mediums such as gesso, glues, collage, organics, etc

  • Organizing and gluing the elements to build your STORY

  • Creating unity from chaos, and choosing a limited color palette will unify your materials

Use of other materials for mark making is encouraged. Crayons, sharpies, colored pencils and other mark-making tools. All basic collage materials and tools will be supplied, but we encourage students to anything they feel is relative to their story.
Old photos, used gift wrappers, your chosen paper, old greeting cards, found objects…all of these can add texture, interest, and creative direction!

Remember:

  • There is no ‘wrong way’ when working with mixed media

  • Layers create interest, even mistakes!

  • Art can be intuitive and playful

  • Every piece is a learning experience!

This class seats 8 students. Cancellation and transfer policies can be found at the link in the navigation bar. Please call (828) 776 2716 or email gallery@310art.com for any questions concerning classes.
