MAKE YOUR OWN WASHI TAPE with MARY ALICE RAMSEY, MARCH 4th (1pm to 5pm) 2026
Wednesday, March 4th - 1PM to 5PM- $145 - All materials for class supplied, but students would benefit from bringing additional sketchbooks.
Washi Tape is a great way to enhance your art - but are you sick of paying such high prices for it? Do you wish you had personalized Washi Tapes, or more variety? It’s time to learn to MAKE YOUR OWN!
In this class you will learn to us a gel-plate printing process to transform plain transparent tape into Washi Tape. Students will create multi-layered gel printed backgrounds that will be enhanced by using both hand-crafted and commercial stencils for contrast and design. Mary Alice will demonstrate two different methods to turn these prints into Washi Tape that you can then use in your artwork, collages, journaling, and more! Sudents may also use an assortment of additional paper and fiber elements to use their new Washi Tapes in making a complex collage.
Besides your collage, you will take home additional Washi Tape and gel prints for use with other art!

Mary Alice Ramsey, a native of Western North Carolina, works in the areas of bookmaking, drawing, painting, and collage. She is a published author and performance poet with a Master’s Degree in Art and Art Education, a National Board Certified Teacher, a Master Gardener, and a member of Southern Highland Handicrafts Guild that features her art books. She works from a studio in her home, and is a thirty year instructor of art and bookmaking.
