There is so much to think about when you begin an oil painting, and it’s not hard to lose your way and end up with a muddy, flat mess!

The goal of this workshop is to guide you toward success , and end with a painting that makes you feel happy and satisfied!  Having two days to learn the ins-and-outs of oil painting will give you the confidence you need to continue your journey with oils.

Students will begin with the basics, using the landscape as our genre, and there will be step by step demonstrations along the way as each concept is explained. The painting will be developed using modern intuitive techniques, but not forgetting some of the classical methods.  

• How to build layers, and what medium to use, and when. 

• Colors – understanding them, and how to work with a  limited palette to create a more cohesive painting. How using colors properly help to create a sense of depth a sense of mood.  

• Brushes – what brushes to use, how to hold them properly and use them to create different strokes and textures. 

• What is glazing, how and when is that done?  How about scumbling? 

• And, importantly, what are you trying to convey in your painting.

Feeling comfortable and successful with oils ( as with any medium) is a process, so this workshop will benefit not only beginners but also established artists wanting to get back in touch with the basics.

Susan Sinyai is an accomplished artist and teacher, specializing in Oil and Pastel. She has won awards in numerous local, regional and national shows for her gorgeous landscapes, florals, and portraits.
