Starting with a beginning sketch is VITAL to making sure your painting will be a success, but so many artists seem to forget this!

Before your brush touches a canvas, Susan Sinyai is here to help you get the best out of this vital first step. This workshop will help you to see where you are going with your painting by…

• Understanding the values

• Making sense of light and dark areas

• Creating a cohesive composition before you begin. 

Students will work on line drawings that incorporate the Japanese concept of notans (creating harmony between black and white), as well as preparing a more developed sketch with a variety of shading by using the Grisaille method - a secret weapon for creating a vibrant, eye-catching painting!

Bring your own photos or use the references provided. Paper and drawing supplies will be provided!
