During one of my first hikes through the Western North Carolina Mountains, I had a life-altering experience when I discovered my first Jack-In-The-Pulpit. When unfurled, it evoked the image of an Indian flame and touched me spiritually. I began searching for other natural objects, finding each a work of art onto itself. My friends who sometimes accompany me call these "my hunts". I found that the whole of the forest is like one giant palette full of natural art materials such as vines, hydrangea blooms. leaves, and, the often unappreciated but glorious, weed. It is with much joy that I create my "Nature Collages" using these natural materials. A recent collaboration with the fantastic watercolorist and illustrator, Patricia Feito, has been awesome. Patricia's vibrant use of color and drawing has added a special dimension that helps to inspire my finds.
I have taken various art classes in Mixed Media, Nature Drawing, Watercolor, Acrylic Painting, Bookmaking, and Encaustic Art.
