Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st - 10AM to 3PM- $330 - Materials will be available but students may also bring their own if they prefer.

Welcome to an individual freestyle approach to contemporary watercolor techniques, using emotionally bold and dramatic light!
Known for her work in experimental watercolor, Nadine will demonstrate non-traditional tools and brushes, as well as painting vertically on an easel. This class is an investigation of working in watercolor from 23x30 or larger - you will learn to focus your watercolor techniques on large, powerful compositions and images.
Through demonstrations and one-on-one explanations, students will be encouraged to approach this medium in a loose, moody emotional techniques. Nadine will discuss methods to build the image by laying in the dark strengths of the composition, simplifying structure and details, and working with strong values and color…draw less and paint more!
Choose your own subject with dramatic value and learn how to bring the painting to life! Students will work from photos, their own reference, basic sketches, and their imagination. You can experiment with scrubbing, dripping, splashing and glazing and more in a a way to bring forward unexpected results!

Nadine Charlsen is an award winning professional watercolorist. Her watercolors have been featured in Splash 16 and 17, American Art Collector, Laurel of Asheville, and Asheville Made. Her non-traditional style was featured in Watercolor Artist Magazine ‘Making A Scene” in 2017. Charlsen is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, life member of the Art Students League of New York, a member of the Salmagundi Club, and the National Association of Women Artists.
