Have you ever looked at oil pigment sticks and thought, what do I do with these? How do I use them? This class is designed to unlock those mysteries - and more - while inspiring your creativity!

Pigment sticks are essentially oil paint in a portable, easy-to-use stick form. They offer artists a way to paint with oils without all of the set-up, as well a unique ability to draw with paint with makes them a valuable addition to any oil painter’s toolbox. Great for travel too!

In this class, students will explore a variety of techniques, including painting directly with pigment sticks, mono printing, incorporating cold wax to create texture and depth, and much more. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, you'll discover new ways to express yourself through this versatile medium. Come and learn the great benefits of Oil Pigment Sticks!

Cindy Walton is an acclaimed abstract painter and instructor with a long record of teaching and mentoring. She has a baccalaureate degree in art from Salem College, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville.  Cindy is an expert in abstraction and use of cold wax methods and is highly respected as a teacher of the medium.

SUPPLY LIST

  •  R&F Pigment Sticks

    • You will need to bring your own Oil sticks. The least expensive set is the R&F 1/2 stick three pack.

    • The least expensive sets are the ½ stick 3 pack. The next level up from that are the sets of six full sticks. These come in five color combinations. If you would rather, feel free to bring an assortment of your chosen colors!

    • The above oil pigment sticks can be ordered online from Dick Blick or Jerry’s Artarama

    • (we will have some sticks for you to use also, in assorted colos, but best to bring at least the 3 pack)

  • Freezer wrap or pad of palette paper

  • Arches oil paper 12x16 one pad

  • Baby oil

  • Brushes (an assortment)

  • Palette knives (an assortment)

  • Dough scrapers, catalyst tools, clay tools: things for moving paint around

  • Rubber gloves

  • Paper Towels

  • Blue or white painters tape

Optional Extras:

  • Samples of oil sticks to be used by the class in addition to your own

  • Blending medium with dryer

  • Blending medium without dryer

  • Blending sticks

  • Cold wax

  • Gamsol
